Why Are You Doing This?

As we live our lives and impact others, we naturally leave important thoughts, lessons and items. We imprint our lives on the lives of others.

Consciously bringing this all together can help bring that legacy up to a new level. Without a doubt, this is a monumental and worthy task. Putting your life story on film brings it to another level indeed and allows future generations to see your personality, emotion and sincerity in passing along the important things in your life.

Material things are important, but lessons and stories are priceless. Oh how I wish I could see my grandparents or great grandparents tell their story and give me their lessons of life.

As you undertake this extensive but worthy task, continually remind yourself why you are doing this. When you feel overwhelmed with recanting the events of your life and the lessons learned, take a breath, relax and remember why this is important.

List all the reasons why organizing your life legacy is so important to you and your family. Here make a list of everything that comes to your “off the top of your head.” Don’t worry about thinking too deeply right now, just list some reasons that first come to you. As time goes on, you will build upon this list and refine it and maybe even prioritize it.

WRITE DOWN:
  1. My reasons for researching, organizing my legacy:
  2. Why is this important that my family knows my life?
  3. Why is it important to me that my family knows about my life?
  4. Write a 1 sentence mission statement on the purpose of leaving my legacy to my family. You may want to print this and post this. This also acts as a motivator to continue to live your legacy life as long as you can.
  5. Mission Statement:
